BOSTON (Reuters) - Scott Brown, the Republican whose surprise victory in the Senate race in Massachusetts rocked the political landscape, has signed a deal to write his memoirs, the publisher HarperCollins said on Wednesday.
Brown, 50, became in January the first Republican to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate for almost five decades, filling the seat of the late Senator Edward Kennedy.
His victory robbed the Democrats of a crucial 60th vote in the Senate. Democrats need 60 votes in the 100-member chamber to be able to clear Republican procedural hurdles and pass legislation without a single Republican vote.
The as-yet-untitled book will be released in early 2011, subject to Senate Ethics Committee approval of the publishing agreement. Terms were not disclosed.
Brown, a former model and state legislator, will write about his family background, early career, unlikely ascent to the U.S. Senate and the policies and issues he most cares about, the publisher said.
HarperCollins is part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp empire.
