TOWN OF RUSSELL, Wis. (WSAU) – A fire that started in an attached garage quickly spread to a home in the town of Russell late last night, causing heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
Two people were at home at the time and safely escaped. The family pets also got out OK.
The fast response from three area fire departments helped the homeowners salvage some of their belongings.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, authorities say some debris from a weekend barn fire in the town of Birch reignited early yesterday. Firefighters responded and put out the flames.
