Selig to Step Aside
MILWAUKEE, Wis (Midwest Communications) – The Chicago Tribune has reported, citing unnamed sources, that Bud Selig will not stay on as MLB’s commissioner when his contract expires in 2012.
According to the report, the sources said that a group of five owners approached Selig and asked him to stay on, but Selig, 75, informed the owners that he desires to pursue other interests while he is still able.
Reached at his Milwaukee office on Wednesday, Selig declined to discuss the particulars of his conversations with the owners, but according to the report did state that he plans to remain on the job for three more years.
Baseball’s next labor agreement is due to be negotiated in 2011.
