MADISON (WRN) - Not all the employment news in Wisconsin is bad. The building industry said Friday that Wisconsin had the nation’s 2nd largest percentage increase in construction jobs in October.

The Associated General Contractors said 3,500 new construction jobs were created statewide last month, almost 3.5 percent more than in September. Only Michigan had a bigger increase, with 5,400 new construction jobs. But the industry is still hurting. The contractors group said the national unemployment rate for construction was almost 19 percent – the highest of any sector last month. The group said Congress should approve a new jobs bill that includes more investments in infrastructure.

30 states and Washington D.C. lost construction jobs last month. Wisconsin was among 18 states with an increase.
